Open all year round: Help Slisha Children and Enjoy Nepali Cultural Immersion
We at Slisha would like to invite you to join us and participate in our orphan education. Throughout your volunteer participation in teaching our orphan children, it will extend our children’s enthusiasm and vision towards the new world. Children can play an active role in shaping their own lives, contribute to their community and promote changes to benefit their country.
Effectively, it can bring harmony to the world. Furthermore, we guarantee that you will have the opportunity to discover the Nepali lifestyle in depth.
Where to stay:
You will be accommodated in Slisha Home in Kapan, Kathmandu. It is situated on the outskirts of Kathmandu, near one of the most famous Buddhist shrines called Boudhanath (also known as Boudha). The school is about 15 km from the city, and about 5km from the airport. The school is 20 minutes walk from Kopan Monastery, well-known for Buddhist retreat courses.
Nepali culture is distinctively friendly and open so volunteering participants are made to feel as though they are part of the family. During this period volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in local festivals and get the opportunity to exchange our local culture with your home culture. This program is a great opportunity for volunteers to learn about the Nepalese culture, lifestyle, language, people and religion.
What to do
Volunteers in the program will receive the Nepali language lesson for 1 hour a day for 5 consecutive days (thus, a total of 5 hours from the first day of joining). You will be teaching our orphan children in house for about 2 hours (including one hour play time after school) and teaching about 3 hours a day in local school where the orphans are studying.
Volunteer also have chance for adventures, which include village visits, hiking, cultural dancing, white water rafting, Annapurna trekking, a visit to the Royal Chitwan National Park and elephant safari. The relevant arrangements can be assisted by our Slisha school.
This program is open to world-wide participants. You can join with your family, friends, and individuals. As long as you are warm-hearted with a healthy mindset and are passionate to make the connection with a group of children aged 7-14, then, you are qualified. The regular course in school includes English, Mathematics, Science, Computer etc. If you would like to teach other subjects not included within our regular curriculum, please feel free to consult with us in advance. The necessary adjustments can be arranged upon need.
What is the cost
Slisha is a non governmental organization (‘NGO’) established for the purpose of providing food, shelter, clothing, education and family environment for children most of who lost their parents during the recent 10 year internal conflict. Some of the children are from extremely poor families who cannot provide the basic needs for them to grow properly. We, therefore, need to fund ourselves independently in order to support the life of orphans.
Your payment is solely taken for sponsoring the living and education cost of our orphan children. This will also cover your cost of living and airport pick-up.
Weekly Cost in US$:
One week = $ 100; Two weeks = $150; Three weeks = $ 200 ; One month = $ 250; Two months = $ 500; Three months = $ 675; Four months = $ 800 ; Five months = $ 1000.
The above cost for volunteers includes food and accommodation during their stay with us. Also included is airport pick up and drop off and one day sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Nepal regulation, our NGO, Slisha, is audited by public auditors and external auditor annually in order to qualify renewing our license of running the Slisha Home.
How to apply
Please fill in our online application with the details required. Once we receive your application, we will conduct our internal assessment in conjunction with the vacancy at the point of time. When our assessment is completed, we will email you with our decision by e-mail. The payment will then be taken when the terms and conditions are agreed by you.
