WAWCAS – Kathmandu successfully conducted a five-day LNGO Management Training from 26 to 30 January 2026, marking an important milestone in strengthening the organization’s institutional capacity and long-term sustainability.
Initiated in 2025 through a major women’s event, WAWCAS – Kathmandu was established under the guiding principle “Women at Work, Children at School.” Since its inception, the organization has remained firmly committed to empowering women and ensuring children’s access to education.
During the formal registration process, the organization faced several unnecessary challenges from the District Administration Office (DAO). Despite these obstacles, the team demonstrated strong determination and successfully completed the registration. Following this achievement, the committee convened a meeting to develop an action plan for obtaining a Permanent Account Number (PAN) and for listing the organization with relevant local authorities. The same meeting also finalized the dates for the LNGO management training.
As planned, the training was conducted with the participation of 31 members representing four regional committees and the central committee. Each day of the training was carefully designed to promote active participation, learning, and practical application. Before the training began, participants were asked to write down their personal worries and place them in a sealed box. They were informed that their worries were now “locked away,” allowing them to be fully present—both physically and mentally—throughout the training.
A major outcome of the training was the collective development of a 10-year vision for WAWCAS – Kathmandu:
“Empowered women, educated children, and environmentally responsible communities—guiding women toward leadership, political participation, and the creation of an economically and socially prosperous society.”
Following the vision-setting exercise, participants identified key blockages and challenges that could hinder the achievement of this vision. Using the “Five Whys” method, participants conducted deep-rooted problem analysis for each challenge. Based on this process, strategies were developed through participatory workshop methods and categorized into focal strategies, primary strategies, and secondary strategies.
The training also included an important session on resource mobilization and fundraising, enabling participants to explore sustainable funding approaches for organizational growth.
At the conclusion of the training, each regional committee, along with the central committee, developed a concrete action plan, ensuring shared responsibility and a clear direction for future implementation.
After the training sessions, the floor was opened for participants to share their reflections and experiences:
“The visioning and ‘Five Whys’ exercise allowed us to identify real challenges we often ignore. It was powerful to turn those challenges into practical strategies together.”
— Sangha Laxmi Maharjan, Chairperson, Central Committee
“Learning about fundraising and action planning gave us confidence that we can sustain our work independently and not rely only on external support.”
— Parbati Pulami, Chairperson, Regional Committee
“This training strengthened unity among regional and central committees. We now feel responsible not only for our own region but for the growth of WAWCAS – Kathmandu as a whole.”
— Urmila Prasain, Chairperson, Regional Committee 1
The training concluded with a symbolic closing ceremony in which participants burned the worries they had written down on the first day, marking a renewed sense of clarity, confidence, and collective commitment.
This LNGO Management Training has significantly strengthened WAWCAS – Kathmandu’s organizational foundation and reaffirmed its dedication to building a sustainable, accountable, and impactful local organization devoted to women’s empowerment and children’s education.
